SO I RSVP'd for this event at the Catholic Christ Cathedral (former Crystal Cathedral) which was at the Frank Freed theatre (Frank & Evelyn Freed provided the funding for this theatre when it was still the Crystal Cathedral; Frank Freed, by the way, was laid to rest a few weeks ago, RIP). They had a nice reception beforehand , and then we sat down to hear the speaker who is with the Bishops organization in Washington DC. HE spoke for about an hour, and the emphasis I got from him was that the pope thinks of today's society as a "throwaway culture" (nothing has any lasting, significant impact) and that he wants to see more "authentic" interactions between people, especially by Christians towards the marginalized (the poor).
